8 Years of Desert Blue: A Little Reflection and a Lot of Gratitude

Eight years ago, I graduated with my master's degree in Organizational Development & Leadership and did something that felt both exciting and a little terrifying. I started my own business.

That summer of 2018, Desert Blue Consulting and Coaching became official.

People have asked me over the years where the name came from. The answer is pretty simple.

I'm a Pisces who grew up in San Diego and have now lived in the Phoenix desert for more than 20 years. I've always loved the ocean, but I also love the symbolism of bringing water where it's needed most. To me, Desert Blue represents growth, possibility, and the idea that with the right support, people can thrive even during life's driest seasons.

What I didn't realize back then was just how much both I and my business would evolve.

Over the last eight years, I've coached small business owners, partnered with nonprofits, provided HR consulting, offered administrative support, and eventually found my way to the work that feels most like home: helping people navigate career transitions, workplace challenges, and finding the confidence to advocate for themselves. Along the way, I even added Pilates coaching to the mix (and there's more to come on that front soon!).

From the outside, it might look like I've changed directions a lot.

I see it differently.

I've been following my curiosity.

One of the greatest gifts of owning my own business is that it gives me the freedom to keep learning, growing, and creating. I don't have to fit neatly into one box or ask permission to try something new. I get to build a business that reflects who I am today. Not who I was eight years ago.

That freedom has been one of the greatest joys of this journey.

To everyone who has hired me, worked with me, referred me, cheered me on, attended a workshop, downloaded a resource, or simply encouraged me along the way…thank you. You've helped shape Desert Blue into what it is today, and I'm so grateful you've been part of the journey.

Here's to eight years of growth, a few pivots, plenty of lessons learned, and continuing to discover our voices, own our paths, and create work that feels meaningful.

I'm excited to see what Year 9 has in store.
