Letting Go of Control: A Lesson in Leadership Growth

A few weeks ago in a coaching session with one of my clients, we talked about something many leaders wrestle with - letting go of control.

She’s a small business owner who started her journey as a front office coordinator. Now, she owns the business. Her team has been with her for years, and yet she finds herself tangled in the day-to-day office operations. She's the go-to person for everything. Sound familiar?

She came to our session feeling stuck and frustrated. Not because her team was failing - but because they were asking her to step back. They wanted to be trusted. They wanted to lead in their roles. And she was realizing, maybe for the first time, that she didn’t fully trust them to do that yet.

Letting go of control is deeply uncomfortable for many leaders, especially when your identity has been built around being the one who gets it done. But leadership isn’t about doing it all - it’s about empowering others, making space, and turning your attention toward growth, vision, and impact.

At Desert Blue Consulting and Coaching, I support leaders through these exact growing pains. Because that’s what it is: growth. It’s messy, emotional, and sometimes downright hard. But it’s also powerful.

In our coaching work, my client and I aren’t rushing to flip a switch. We’re building the leadership muscle, one small win at a time. Trusting the team to own a meeting. Delegating a task without checking in. Blocking off time for the big picture stuff like business development - and honoring it.

This is what it looks like to discover your voice and own your path. It’s about reclaiming your energy, refocusing on your purpose, and learning to lead with trust instead of control.

If this resonates with you 0 if you’re feeling stretched, stuck, or ready for a new kind of leadership - I’d love to work with you. Coaching is a space to slow down, tune in, and move forward with intention.

You don’t have to do this alone.
